課程概述 |
.This course aims to enhance students’ English proficiency at the high-intermediate level through diverse and integrated class activities. Students will be introduced to various topics that are relevant, engaging, and helpful to college life. In addition to social and cultural issues, topics on Academic and professional English (English for Science, Technology, or Business) will be discussed. Additionally, students will be trained how to utilize on-line sources such as on-line dictionary, on-line corpora, and various language learning websites to sharpen English language skills. |

課程要求 |
(1) Attend classes. Three (3) points deducted from student’s final grade for each absence (3 teaching hours) occurs without advance notification and teacher permission. If you want take leave, please contact TA by e.mail in advance. For taking sick leave, please notify the TA no later than the end of each week’s class. Absence without official authorization or proof will not be permitted after the third time of absence.
(2) Actively participate in in-class activities, which will take the form of question-and-answer sessions, group discussion, written reports, on-line corpora training sessions, and other formats. The class will be taught mainly in English; students are encouraged to interact with the instructor,the TA,and their classmates in English.
(3) Complete three(3) essays throughout the semester. Essays that are handed after deadline will be deducted 30% of the grades. Essays handed two weeks after the deadline will not be accepted.
(4) Complete the assignments from lab sessions which include OLCP listening comprehension program (http://140.112.185.55/site/login), COCA practice, and various grammar writing practices. You get 0.5 point for completing each extra OLCP listening practice. We will start to use OLCP listening program after the third week of the semester.
(5)Complete the assignments and hand in the assignments to the TA in the beginning of each class meeting. The instructor will announce the assignment at the end of each class meeting and make email notification. Students are required to check notification from your NTU webmail.
(6) Actively participate in midterm and final presentation/performance. Students are expected to attend two in-class exams (Week 10 & Week 16- not during the mid-term and final week), do “show and tell” (5 minutes) in the mid-term, and the group drama performance (15 minutes)in the final week. Students have to schedule a meeting with TA to rehearse your show and tell and another meeting with the instructor regarding the group drama performance(15 minute |
